One Man's Junk is Another Man's Gold!

At a time when we are all tightening our belts, why are we not using what we already have?

Finding uses for things that were once loved, but are now in a bag waiting for a trip to a charity shop, or even worse the dump!

This old wooden truck was a much loved toy by me, but now that he is older it has been parked under the bed gathering dust and been forgotten.

With a little bit of imagination and some T.L.C this old truck has been transformed and now takes pride of place in the family bathroom and has an important roll (all be it a toilet roll) of housing that all important spare roll.

By spray painting it in a dark marine blue it fits nicely on its throne and matches the marine blue in the tiles, so it not only holds the toilet paper, it also holds the secret of a hundred memories!

So come on! Use your imagination, as well as all those forgotten treasures around your home that once meant so much to you, and give it a new lease of life.

Medicine Drawer

When you first moved into your home, your medicine cabinet was probably the picture of good health: clean, organized, and uncluttered. Fast forward a few years and things have changed. Without proper maintenance, your medicine cabinet could be in need of serious doctoring.

Take a quick look inside your medicine cabinet. Is it difficult to find what you need? Do you have to shuffle things around to find bandages, nail clippers, and dental floss, only to knock over things in the process? Is your cabinet cluttered with articles that don't belong there? Are there outdated items, such as prescriptions or nail polish, which should be thrown away? If you answered "Yes" to any (or all) of these questions, your medicine cabinet has fallen ill.

Take 15 minutes every month or so to organise what you have and use simple colour coded sandwich bags to separate similar items. Add a little less stress in a crisis!

Keeping Wrapping Paper Neat and Tidy

The holidays are certainly the perfect time to get organised, and when all of your supplies are in order, wrapping is fun, not a chore.

Keep the old cardboard tubes that gift-wrap comes wound around to store large, loose sheets of paper; use a rubber band to keep the paper from unwinding from the roll. You can also store papers the way we have shown in separate sandwich bags, labelled accordingly!

After the holidays this year, don't forget to take advantage of the sales on wrapping supplies -- stock up on exquisite papers and ribbons.

Vase Ideas

There’s nothing like getting crafty to add a personal touch to your home. We suggest something as simple as making different types of vases from items that you may have in your home with fresh cut flowers from your garden.

Here we at Busy Lizzie created a beautiful vase from a wine cooler from Newbridge that served no purpose in the home.

You could wrap an old vase in a similar fabric to your decor or create something festive that can sit as a centrepiece on your table during Christmas Dinner?!

The Importance of Keeping a Tidy Cutlery Drawer in the Home!

The weaning stage is a wonderful time where children get to experience different tastes and textures. Once they are eating a varied diet and are able to self-feed confidently, they are ready to progress onto learning how to use cutlery.

Using cutlery is a new learning process for children to grasp that can take a lot of practice to perfect. It takes a lot of skill to use cutlery effectively, so a lot of patience is required during this process. Patience on everyone’s part.

Separate out your children’s colourful cutlery to tidy up your own cutlery drawer for a quick de-clutter fix. It makes cleaning and accessibility easily for you as a parent and it may even inject some ‘fun time’ into meal times.

I love this time of year, making plans for Christmas  getting the house ready for friends and relatives to stay.

I have put together a mood board, to get your mind into planning for the festive season, starting with some cost nights in around the fire, eating good food and drinking good red wine.
