The Foliage Has It

I am a huge fan of flowers. My mother is a trained horticulturist and father was a tree surgeon, so between them I have inherited some very green fingers.
This is a great time of year to get some great cuttings for flower arranging. To me the hydrangeas look their best with a little bit of rust on the leaves, and the colours are becoming mottled and more pastel looking.

So this week I went out into the garden with my secateurs (Felco of course), my cuttings basket and wellies.

I came back with some hydrangea, lavender, eucalyptus, rosemary, lemon balm, thyme, apple mint and hypericum.

I have a great range of glasses, vases and other unconventional pots, jugs and buckets that I use for my arrangements and wreaths. That is the great thing about flowers, they are structurally strong, so you don't need lots of blooms or expensive containers to make a great statement piece.

I am not into using oasis, or tape and cosmetically pruning the flowers and foliage, I love the natural look

The end result...

I love this silver jug, it's from an antique silver market in Amsterdam, it sets this arrangement off so well.

I love the way the blackberries have a great sheen with the silver, and the bamboo side table and frame tie in together.  The picture in the frame is a postcard I picked up from Coco De Mer back in London. Added a lilac frame to it and it became a great impact piece.
